Purpose

The Comedy Detective Board helps comedians investigate a topic, story, or premise before writing jokes. It uncovers contradictions, emotional pressure, hidden rules, character tension, and overlooked joke angles.

When To Use It

Use this tool when an idea feels interesting but not fully funny yet, when a story needs more tension, or when you want to understand why a situation feels strange, frustrating, unfair, or ridiculous.

How To Use It

  1. Enter a topic, story, situation, or premise.
  2. Click Open Investigation.
  3. Work through each detective section.
  4. Look for contradictions, hidden truths, emotional pressure, and broken social rules.
  5. Use the clues to build punchlines, tags, callbacks, characters, or longer stories.

Example Input

Premise:
Modern trucks have too many buttons.

Example Output

Detective Clue:
The truck is supposed to make life easier, but now the driver needs flight training.

Possible Joke Path:
Compare the dashboard to an airplane cockpit, a NASA launch panel, or a suspicious casino machine.

Comedy Tip

Do not hunt for funny first. Hunt for what is strange, frustrating, confusing, unfair, or unexpected. That is usually where the comedy is hiding with a fake mustache on.

Tip: Enter the situation as plainly as possible. The Detective Board will help you find where the comedy pressure lives.
