How To Use This Tool

Purpose

The Bit Builder Workspace helps you turn a rough comedy idea into a more complete bit by organizing the key pieces: premise, truth, escalation, tags, callbacks, performance notes, and final polished version.

When To Use It

Use this tool when you have an idea that is too big for one quick punchline, when a story needs structure, or when loose jokes need to be shaped into something you can actually perform.

How To Use It

1. Enter the basic premise or story idea.
2. Write the honest truth underneath the idea.
3. Add escalation: how the situation gets bigger, stranger, or worse.
4. Add tags, alternate jokes, or quick punchlines.
5. List callback ideas that could return later.
6. Add performance notes for pauses, act-outs, voices, or delivery.
7. Write the final polished version.
8. Build the summary and save the draft when it is ready.

Example Input

Premise: My wife makes me trail two cart lengths behind her at Aldi.
Truth: Married men are not shopping partners. We are cargo escorts.
Escalation: First it is two cart lengths, then radio silence, then I am walking point by the canned goods.
Callback: Cargo escort.

Comedy Tip

Do not try to write the final bit first. Build the truth and escalation first. A bit without structure is just a joke wearing loose suspenders.
